Misawa Yuichirou Simulation of shield behavior at Akita central road tunnel by kinematic shield model. Supervisor Mitsutaka SUGIMOTO In recent years, high technology of shield has been adopted to construct tunnels in soft ground, such as Trans Tokyo Bay project, to reduce noise, pollution and vibration in urban area. Through automatic excavation system with expert system and AI to control shield, we could obtain various data from construction sites. However, the physical property of the ground relating to excavation, external force acting on shield and shield behavior are not yet clarified. Therefore, it is difficult to control shield in complex geological structure. Furthermore, because of the importance in making analysis considering shield behavior and excavation condition, it is necessary that the external forces acting on shield satisfy dynamic equilibrium condition. This study aims to inspect the validity of the kinematic shield model. As for the procedure of the analysis, firstly we identify the physical property of the ground by reverse analysis. Then, we simulate the shield behavior using the obtained physical property by the kinematic shield model. Finally, we can verify the model, comparing the analysis results with the measured one. Here, we used the data from Akita central road site near Akita station (JR East) for the analysis. The characteristics of the site are as follows: 1) a large size of tunnel section and low overburden; 2) wide range of geological feature; and 3) neighboring construction to Akita station building. As a result, the validity of the model was confirmed, since the analyzed shield behavior has a good agreement with the measured one.
